We have Good News for babies throughout South Santa Clara County and San Benito County communities – St. Louise Regional Hospital has been designated as a Baby-Friendly Hospital. This designation puts us in an elite group of hospitals. Baby-Friendly USA is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The program recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding. As a Baby Friendly hospital, our staff is trained in breastfeeding and newborns stay with their mothers throughout their hospital stay.

Pre-Registration

Before your due date, we encourage you to schedule a tour of our facility and complete the necessary pre-admission forms.

This is an ideal time for you to share any personal or cultural preferences included in your birth plan. Making these preparations ahead of time means that when it is time to deliver, the only thing you need to focus on is your baby. Lactation Support

We provide certified lactation consultants to give mothers the education and support they need to begin breast-feeding. We also have a breast-feeding support group that meets at the hospital every Wednesday morning to help new mothers with any concerns or issues. Infant Security

We take the safety and security of your newborn very seriously. Our department is a secure unit with advanced tools that include security cameras, electronic ankle bands for infants and matching wristbands for mothers.


Prenatal Education Services

Our team offers classes to help new parents feel confident and reassured during this exciting time. We provide the following classes below. For more information on our classes, please call (408) 848-8663.

  • 4-Week childbirth preparation class

    Our 4-week series allows parents to learn about the birth process in a comfortable, nurturing environment and develop a trust in the body's natural abilities.

    The series covers:

    • Ways to connect to your natural instincts
    • Labor coping techniques
    • Understanding the labor process
    • The birth partner’s role - techniques on how to support a laboring woman
    • Bonding, breastfeeding, and intital newborn and postpartum care

    We recommend couples begin this series between 28 and 30 weeks. The class takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Advance registration is required. To register, call (408) 848-4968.

  • Free Prenatal Yoga

    Yoga is a system of exercises designed to promote your physical and mental well-being. Yoga can make you more comfortable and increase your energy during pregnancy. Our free prenatal yoga class focuses on breathing techniques and positions specially designed for expectant mothers.

    You do not need to register, and you may drop in at your convenience. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat and water bottle. The class takes place on Tuesdays from 5:00 to 5:45 PM.

  • Sibling Preparation Class

    The arrival of a new baby can bring many changes to a family and this can pose challenges for older siblings.  This class will help prepare soon-to-be brothers and sisters, ages 3 - 8, for the arrival of the new baby. At least one parnet is required to attend. There is no fee, but pre-registration is required.  Call (408) 848-8663.
